Homemade Fried Cheese Bites

Ingredients:
8 oz block of mozzarella or cheddar cheese, cut into 1-inch cubes
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs, beaten
1 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Vegetable oil, for frying
Marinara or ranch dressing (for dipping)

Directions:
I. In a shallow dish, combine the flour with a pinch of salt and pepper. In a second shallow dish, place the beaten eggs. In a third shallow dish, mix the breadcrumbs with garlic powder and Italian seasoning, if using.
II. Dredge each cheese cube in the flour, shaking off any excess. Dip the floured cheese cube into the beaten eggs, ensuring it’s fully coated, then roll it in the breadcrumb mixture until evenly covered. Repeat for all the cheese cubes.
III. Place the coated cheese cubes on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes. This step helps prevent the cheese from melting too quickly while frying.
IV. Heat about 1-2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or saucepan over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
V. Fry the cheese bites in batches, turning them occasionally, until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 1-2 minutes per batch. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan.
VI. Remove the fried cheese bites with a slotted spoon and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate.
VII. Serve immediately with marinara sauce or ranch dressing for dipping.
