Homemade Krispy Kremes

Ingredients:
For the Doughnuts:
1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Glaze:
2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:
Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of the sugar. Stir and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, beat together the remaining sugar, eggs, and melted butter. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
Let the Dough Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Shape the Doughnuts: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2-inch thickness. Use a doughnut cutter or two round cutters (one large and one small) to cut out doughnut shapes. Place the doughnuts and doughnut holes on a floured surface, cover with a cloth, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Fry the Doughnuts: Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully fry the doughnuts, a few at a time, for about 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Make the Glaze: In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Glaze the Doughnuts: While the doughnuts are still warm, dip each one into the glaze, ensuring it’s fully coated. Place on a wire rack to allow the glaze to set.
Serve: Enjoy your homemade Krispy Kremes warm or at room temperature. Perfect with a cup of coffee!
