Ingredients:
For the Chicken Fried Steak:
4 cube steaks (about 1/2 inch thick)
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
2 large eggs
1/2 cup milk
Vegetable oil for frying
For the Gravy:
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Prepare the Steaks:
In a shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
In another dish, whisk together the eggs and milk.
Dredge each cube steak in the seasoned flour, then dip it into the egg mixture, and then back into the flour, pressing the flour into the steak to ensure it’s well coated. Repeat with all steaks.
Fry the Steaks:
Heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Fry the steaks, one or two at a time, for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
Remove the steaks and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate. Keep warm.
Make the Gravy:
Drain all but about 2 tablespoons of oil from the skillet, leaving any browned bits in the pan.
Whisk in the flour, cooking for 1-2 minutes until it’s lightly browned.
Slowly whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
Cook the gravy for about 5-7 minutes, until thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve:
Pour the gravy over the chicken fried steaks and serve hot. Enjoy with mashed potatoes, biscuits, or your favorite side dishes!
