Ingredients:
For the Biscuits:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
3/4 cup buttermilk
For the Sausage Gravy:
1 lb ground breakfast sausage
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 1/2 cups milk
1/2 tsp black pepper
Salt to taste
Fresh parsley (optional for garnish)
Directions:
Make the biscuits: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in buttermilk until dough forms. Turn dough onto a floured surface, gently pat it out, and fold it over a few times. Roll to about 1/2 inch thick and cut into biscuits. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
Cook sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned and crumbled.
Make the gravy: Sprinkle flour over the sausage and stir to coat. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly, until the gravy thickens. Season with black pepper and salt.
Serve: Split the biscuits and spoon sausage gravy over them. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
