Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1 egg
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
2 large onions, sliced
2 tablespoons butter
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Directions
Make the patties: In a large bowl, mix ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Form into four equal-sized patties.
Cook the patties: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt one tablespoon butter. Cook the patties for about 4 to 5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
Cook the onions: In the same skillet, add the remaining butter and sliced onions. Cook until the onions are softened and caramelized, about 5 to 7 minutes.
Make the gravy: Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir well. Gradually add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring constantly, until the gravy thickens, about 3 to 4 minutes.
Combine and serve: Return the hamburger patties to the skillet, spoon the onion gravy over the top, and let everything simmer for an additional 2 minutes. Serve with mashed potatoes or rice for a comforting meal.
