Cinnamon Apple Twist Bread

Ingredients:
For the Dough:
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
1/2 cup lukewarm milk
2 teaspoons instant yeast
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Filling:
1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
2/3 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 1/2 cups peeled, grated apples (about 1 large apple)
For the Glaze:
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon milk (or more, as needed)

Directions:
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
Add the softened butter, lukewarm milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough by hand or with a mixer until it’s smooth and elastic (about 6-8 minutes). Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
While the dough rises, prepare the filling. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until well combined. Set aside.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a 10×12 inch rectangle.
Spread the cinnamon-butter mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the grated apples evenly over the filling.
Roll the dough tightly from one long edge to the other, forming a log. Pinch the seam to seal it.
Slice the log in half lengthwise, exposing the filling layers. Twist the two halves together, keeping the cut sides up. Form the twisted dough into a circle or keep it in a long twist shape.
Place the twist on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the twist for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.
While the bread cools slightly, make the glaze. Mix the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the warm bread.
